Court Experts and Expert Evidence in Comparative Context: Law, Practice and Reform

Tadeusz Tomaszewski is Professor of Law and Full Professor at the University of Warsaw, where he has served as Head of the Department of Criminalistics for 29 years. He is also Head of the Master’s Programme at the University’s Centre for Forensic Sciences. He previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration (2001–2008), Vice-Rector of the University (2008–2016), Director of the Institute of Criminal Law, and Chair of its Scientific Council.

Professor Tomaszewski is a prominent scholar and expert in criminalistics and forensic science. He has long served as Chair of the Scientific Council and Vice-President of the Board of the Polish Forensic Association and previously chaired the Scientific Council of the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police. He has also served on advisory committees to the Chief Commander of the Police and the Head of the Central Anticorruption Bureau.

He is Vice-President of the Silk Road Forensic Consortium, President of the Polish Fencing Federation, Chair of the Audit Committee of the Polish Olympic Committee, and a member of the Legal Commission of the European Fencing Confederation. In December 2023, he was appointed Plenipotentiary of the Minister of Justice for Court Experts.

His academic and professional achievements have been recognised with numerous national and international awards, including the Henry C. Lee Forensic Science Institute Award for his contribution to the development of forensic science worldwide.
